Alopecia - Frontal Fibrosing

- Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA) is a form of hair loss that mainly affects postmenopausal women. FFA is a type of scarring alopecia, which means that it can potentially result in permanent damage to the hair follicles, leading to hair loss. At The MW Clinic London, our expert dermatologist and trichologist, Dr Sharon Wong, has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of FFA.
- FFA typically presents as a symmetrical hairline recession, which can also involve the eyebrows and body hair. The scalp may appear smooth and shiny, and there may be visible scarring. The exact cause of FFA is unknown, but it is thought to be related to hormonal factors, genetics, or an autoimmune response.
- Treatment for FFA typically involves the use of topical, injectable or oral medications to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system. At The MW Clinic London, we offer a range of treatments, including topical corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors, steroid injections, oral anti-inflammatories and immunosuppressive medications. Dr Wong will discuss all treatment options with the patient and recommend the most appropriate course of action based on their individual needs and preferences.
- At The MW Clinic London, we take a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and management of FFA. Dr Sharon Wong will perform a thorough evaluation of the scalp and hair, taking into consideration the patient's medical history, symptoms, and any relevant laboratory tests. This approach allows us to tailor treatment plans to the individual patient's needs and provide patients with the highest quality care.
